Cartografia para a Portuguesia dedica-se à visualização gráfica de um conjunto de temas enigmáticos, ocultos, e muitas vezes impenetráveis para o público em geral, relacionados com a Portuguesia. O termo portuguesia é um neologismo e refere-se à utilização da língua portuguesa como aspecto determinante de uma maneira particular de ser (individual) e de estar (colectiva, que une todos quantos falam português). Por exemplo, as palavras ‘saudades’ e ‘saudade’ são hoje utilizadas intercambiávelmente, mas representam duas emoções distintas: ‘saudades’ refere-se à perda de algo; mas quando se sente falta de uma coisa que nunca se teve, mas anseia-se por ter, mesmo que inatingível, que não exista ainda, mas há-de existir — isso é Saudade. Subjacente a isto está também a ideia do Quinto Império, esse espaço espiritual e temporal de paz e concórdia universais, com Portugal como sua sede. Assim, a intenção destes mapas é de trazer à luz o carácter único desta realidade, que pode ser verdadeira sem ser verdade, mas sensível em espaços e objectos, tornando-os acessíveis e relevantes para leitores e visitantes contemporâneos.

‘Cartografia para a Portuguesia’ means, roughly, Cartography for a Portuguese mindset and dedicates itself to the graphic visualisation of enigmatic, hidden, and often impenetrable themes for the general public. The term portuguesia is a neologism, and thus not yet directly translatable into other languages. It is meant to refer to the
use of the Portuguese language as a determining aspect of an individual being as well as of a collective being which unites all those who speak Portuguese. For example, the words ‘saudades’ and ‘saudade’ are possibly unique to the Portuguese language, and although used interchangeably today, they represent two distinct meanings: ‘saudades’ refers to the loss of something; but when you miss something that you never had but you long to have, even if it is unattainable or doesn’t exist yet but will exist, then the right word to use is Saudade. Underlying this is also the idea of the Fifth Empire, the spiritual and temporal space of universal peace and harmony, with Portugal as its seat. As such, the aim of these maps is to bring to light the unique character of this reality, which may be true without being true, given its appearance in different in spaces and objects, thus making them accessible and relevant to contemporary readers and visitors.
